Felicity set up this website and the organisation Soul Midwives UK in 2005 to share her innovative work in the field of holistic death and dying. She is the author of Gentle Dying- Hay House(2008) and A Safe Journey Home to be published by Hay House in February 2011
Founder of the Hospice of the Heart Trust, she campaigns for the re-visioning, de-medicalising and increased need for the compassionate care for the dying. Author of the book Gentle Dying, her pioneering Gentle Dying Method is now being used by many health professionals across the country. As a practising Soul Midwife she also works on a one-to-one basis with those in the very last stages of life, helping people to die with compassion,love and dignity. I am a 45 year old man who has been working as a carer and counsellor for almost 20 years, and am currently in the process of setting up and raising funds to establish The Panda Kids Trust, whose vision is to manifest a beautiful centre in nature to support and celebrate seriously ill children. I work with the passage of the Soul, both into and out of, our physical body. I have trained and worked for many years with shamanic technique and Celestial energies, to witness and offer assistance to individuals in their healing. We enter through many gateways from birth to death, and beyond, and we have the ability to increase our own consciousness. Mostly this is done by developing our self- responsibility, which necessarily means being present for our experience of life. There are times though that the passage can be helped by another, physical death is one of them. When we prepare for our death, if we have the opportunity, we can take away the fear and anticipation. We can walk with courage towards what is just another threshold. Granted, this one involves physical separation from those we love but we can come to peace with this aspect and see beyond the fear.

In my work as a Relationship, Bereavement, and Pre-bereavement Counsellor I became aware that some people felt that they had experienced the death of their loved one with a sense of helplessness. They were also sometimes concerned that the death was not as peaceful as the dying person had hoped for. In ‘facilitating’, i.e. being present in the process, I help to support the dying and their close ones at this very important time. As a qualified Soul Midwife I feel honoured to be working alongside those who are facing death. Whatever the circumstances there are always choices and I aim to help the dying to experience a more peaceful and loving passing. I enjoy giving talks on my work, and also presenting workshops on ‘Looking at our own Death’. I believe that in returning to our old ways of ‘living with our death’, we can become less fearful of this natural part of life. I am privileged to live in the area of Ryedale, North Yorkshire. I have been working in complimentary therapy for 20 years. Journeying through my own personal growth within this lifetime, I have felt an intense calling from the deepest essence of my soul, to assist others on their unique and individual healing journeys. I am a qualified Reiki Master, Healing Breathwork practitioner and Psychotherapist (Inner Child Trauma). I am currently training in 'Shamanic Energy Medicine'. My passion for healing began when I lost my youngest brother very suddenly to cancer at the age of 28. My family were overwhelmed by grief and didn’t know how to express it. I came to healing via counselling at Relate and holistic massage finally creating a career in healing at the Bristol Cancer Help Centre (now known as the Penny Brohn Cancer Care Centre).
I spent fifteen years as a member of the therapy team at the Bristol Cancer Help Centre giving healing to patients, staff at the centre and my own private clients. Through my work with cancer patients I developed a strong bond with the dying and their immediate family helping them achieve a meaningful death with dignity and without fear.
I advise the dying on how to take control of the rest of their life, helping them sort through the relationships that will be left and to realise that they have a choice about the memories they leave behind.

I’m a self employed complementary therapist who has, for the past seven years, worked in residential care homes offering aromatherapy and gentle massage to older people. I also run stimulating activity and discussion groups in homes.
Death has always been very much a natural part of my own life with the loss of several close family members at an early age. I have also been privileged to share worries and confidences with people contemplating the diagnosis they have just been given, to give gentle hand massages to those entering their final days and to offer support to families after a loved one has died. I have trained as a Soul Midwife through Felicity and practice in the East Dorset/Hampshire/Wiltshire borders. My interest in the dying process began with the death of my brother 10 years ago to leukaemia and so began a journey of exploration and discovery. I have learnt how to incorporate the concept of dying into living and thus enhance the joy we can all experience whilst having adventures here on planet earth. Yes, we will grieve when losing someone we love but we can ease that process by adjusting our beliefs and continuing our own personal journeys with purpose and meaning. Eileen trained as a psychiatric nurse in the 1970’s, followed on by researching malaria in Africa for WHO, where she was shown there was so much more to the role of the carer sharing time with a person in the last stages of dying. This sent her on a massive journey of discovery which she completed as a Soul Midwife. My own experience of death started at the age of 5 years when my twin brother died and so I have always been drawn to working with the dying and their relatives.
Having felt helpless, angry, uninformed, bewildered and very alone when members of my own family died, I am passionate that everyone has a Soul-Midwife as friend and advocate.
A Soul-Midwife can promote choices; give practical help and information to both the dying and their relatives ensuring that the dying persons’ wishes are carried out and most of all, gentle and loving support.
I feel privileged to be a Soul-midwife trained by Felicity, learning and contributing.
In my own personal journey I believe death is a natural process to embrace not ignore and as our last experience as valuable as any other. With each death experience I learn to live more fully and prepare for my own death.
